Celebrating 21 years

Our Story

The Kakegawa Filipino Catholic Community was formed 21 years ago by a group of migrant Filipinos who found in the church not only a place of worship, but also a home away from home. From humble beginnings, the group has grown steadily each year, and today, Filipinos make up the majority of those attending the parish’s regular Sunday Mass.

Faithful and participative, the community has long been a strong presence in parish life. Members serve in various ways—through the parish council, as volunteers in catechesis for children preparing for baptism, first communion, and confirmation, and in many other parish activities.

In 2025, the group embraces a new mission: to deepen their Christian identity and share the love of Jesus more visibly in the community. Rooted in their devotion to the Eucharist, the Rosary, and charismatic worship movements like Couples for Christ (CFC), they seek to become living witnesses of hope, faith, and charity.

The story of Kakegawa Filipino Catholics is summed up beautifully in their name:
KAKEGAWA – Kindness And Knowledge Echoes God’s Active Work Always.

The Kakegawa Church Filipino Group is dedicated to living out our faith as one family in Christ. Guided by the Eucharist and rooted in our Filipino identity, we seek to:

Our
Mission

  1. Promote Integration – Work for the full integration of Filipinos into the life, services, and mission of the parish, spreading the love of Christ through the Church while honoring our culture and traditions.

  2. Reach Out to Migrants – Extend welcome and support to all migrants, making them feel the presence of the Church and responding to their spiritual and pastoral needs.

  3. Build a Harmonious Community – Foster unity among Filipinos by living out the Gospel of love and light, caring for and supporting one another as brothers and sisters in faith.

  4. Contribute to Parish Life – Enrich and support the wider parish community through active participation, service, and collaboration in its growth and mission.
